There will be no chess club meeting May 28th but we will meet June 4th

Impromptu Blitz #68 & #69 Results

I’m belatedly sharing results from the previous two weeks, both of which again saw large turnouts and a combined 13 first-time visitors to the club, continuing a remarkable trend of well more than a month now where new members are concerned. Young Sarp Sahin, who is visiting from Turkey with his parents and younger brother, Bora, is all of 12 or 13 years of age and is almost 2200 FIDE, won both seven-round G/3+2 blitz tournaments, capping off his good form last week with a perfect 7-0 score. He went 6-1 the previous week to claim sole first, falling only to perennial last-round spoiler Alexander Su in a tense game.

Last week was also interesting in that we saw a five-way tie for second at 5.0 points, a strong group which included two first-time players in our blitz series. Full results for both tournaments are in the attached images and thank you to everyone who joined us in these events. Also, Sarp and Bora may be able to join us for another week or two before returning home so please do join us soon if you’d like a chance to play one or both of these future titled players (my safe prognostication, not necessarily theirs). The club blitz points standings and club unofficial blitz ratings pages have been updated and are available at the links below:

This Thursday we’ll hold another blitz tournament but may use a longer time control or make up 8-person round robin events based on club blitz rating, depending chiefly upon the number of participants. Please try to arrive by 7pm if you do plan to join us. Regards,
